If all else fails, I have older components laying around that I could slap together and install 98SE on to check the LS120 disks. If so, will this allow the 98SE VM to use its LS120 driver to fully control the drive using 8.1 Pro as middleman? The sfloppy.sys driver is included in 8.x I don't know if MS changed it from XP to 8.x (and 10), but if it's essentially the same, it should work. Let's say 8.1 Pro will recognize the drive at least as a normal floppy with the SIIG converter. I'll update this thread with the results - will take a while, as the converter ships from China.

Years ago, I tried various drivers that others claimed worked with their Mitsu LS120 but did not work with my Imation LS120, so there must be differences between brandings/badges. I don't know whether this converter was even on the market the last time I used XP, but it's dirt cheap, so I ordered one on eBay and will see whether it works with 8.1 Pro. My OS is WinXP PRO SP3 with all MS updates. The SIIG adaptor with a green circuit board will not operate. Be absolutely certain that the adaptor has a RED circuit board. Go to and buy a SIIG SC-SA0112-S1 SATA to IDE Adaptor. I found the only reliable method to make a Super Drive floppy operate with the new system is to operate it on a SATA bus. The XP driver for a Mitsubishi Super Drive is sfloppy.sys is found in:

I've read about how to access physical host HD's in Vbox, but couldn't find anything about controlling a physical IDE device like this LS120 from within the VM or whether it's made problematic by the inclusion of a converter.Ĭan it be done, or must I resort to installing this LS120 drive in a vintage PC & OS? Is this going to be a HAL/API issue, even with a straight IDE connection? However, I don't know if they, the VM or Vbox would get along with the converter or even see it (and I suppose this may vary between converters). The LS120 drivers installed from setup.exe in the VM w/o errors. Using said converter, would I be able to access the physical LS120 drive from within this 98SE VM?

My W8.1 mobo has no legacy IDE support, so I'd have to buy a converter for the LS120 drive to SATA port.

So, I ended up installing the Imation LS120 drivers into the 98SE VM via an ISO I created from the LS120 folders on the host HD. I couldn't get a bridged network setup to work - W98SE demands a password when there isn't one on the host machine I tried setting up a pword on host (machine logon & network), but even that didn't work. So, I setup the W98SE VM into Vbox via my old retail CD/ISO. NOTHING but the old drivers running under the old OS works with this drive. I've tried the hacked drivers for XP and 7, in various compatibility modes with and w/o admin, etc. The problem is that there are no LS120 drivers beyond Windows 98SE that work with this Imation drive's high-capacity mode. I have some old LS120 disks that I'd like to port over to my Windows 8.1 machine.Ī forum search turned up nothing relevant.
